Adam Scott One Back Entering Baycurrent Classic Finale
By Smacktok
•

Adam Scott pitched in for eagle at the sixth, holed out from 97 yards for another eagle at the ninth, and walked off Yokohama Country Club with a bogey-free 65. That has him at 12 under and one shot off the lead heading into Sunday's final round of the Baycurrent Classic, per the Associated Press and PGA TOUR.
Here is why that matters. Scott has not won on the PGA Tour since the 2020 Genesis Invitational at Riviera. He is 46, a 14-time Tour winner, a Masters champ and a former world No. 1, and he has been stuck on that number for more than six years.
Two eagles on the front nine
Scott opened with a birdie at the first, then turned the front side into a highlight reel. The pitch-in came at the par-5 sixth. The hole-out came at the par-4 ninth from 97 yards, and both drew big roars from the Japanese galleries. His 65 tied for the low round of the day.
"It was a good round of golf. There was some fun stuff happening out there, a hole-out and a pitch-in, so that always helps," Scott said. He also admitted he left a few putts out there coming in. "It's hard to complain when you shoot a bogey-free 65."
A crowded leaderboard in Japan
Nobody is running away with this. Jacob Bridgeman (69), Michael Brennan (65) and Tour rookie Zach Bauchou (67) share the lead at 13-under 200, and eight players sit within one shot of first.
Scott is part of a five-way tie for fourth with Justin Thomas, Keith Mitchell, Stephan Jaeger and Jordan Smith. Thomas shot 67 and has finished runner-up twice in Japan before. Bridgeman won the Biltmore Championship Asheville just three weeks ago and has held at least a share of the lead all week. Brennan already has a 2026 win at the Wyndham.
It is also a real field. The Tour's lone stop in Asia this year has 13 of the 24 players who competed at the Presidents Cup at Medinah two weeks ago, per the AP.
Scott wants this one badly
The form has been there. Scott finished 11th in the FedEx Cup standings, was solo fourth at the Genesis this year, tied for fourth at the Cadillac Championship in May and has not finished worse than T16 in four starts since early July, per Golfweek and PGA TOUR. He has also made 101 straight starts in majors.
He was blunt about the drought. "It's been like six years since I've won on the PGA Tour. I'm frustrated by that," Scott said. "I feel like there's been some good golf in there and I haven't made the most of it, but it also shows how hard it is to win on the PGA Tour now."
"It would be nice just to win anything, to be honest with you, at this point," he added. "So this is a great chance for me tomorrow to go out and have a fantastic round and hopefully it's better than everyone else."
Eight guys within a shot, Thomas in his group, and a six-year wait that could end on a Sunday in Yokohama. Set the alarm.
