Iosivas on IR After Thumb Ligament Surgery

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Andrei Iosivas will miss at least four games after undergoing surgery Wednesday morning for a torn thumb ligament suffered in Sunday's win over the Houston Texans, coach Zac Taylor said, with the club placing him on injured reserve. Taylor said the injury is not expected to end Iosivas's season. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported a four-to-six-week timeline beyond the IR minimum.

That Wednesday surgery stamp is the board. Soft fantasy note only: do not invent a Week 4 surprise return from a fresh IR placement. The minimum is four games. Fowler's window says plan longer than the floor.

Iosivas had two catches for 19 yards through Cincinnati's first two games in the final year of his rookie deal. Last season he finished with 33 catches for 435 yards and two touchdowns. The thumb turns that quiet start into a multi-week absence instead of a midweek tweak.

Taylor called it unfortunate. The depth answer is already on the roster sheet: rookie Colbie Young and Dohnte Meyers get larger looks, or Cincinnati leans into more two-tight-end snaps with Erick All Jr. and Mike Gesicki. None of that replaces a fourth-year outside piece overnight, but it is the living plan for Pittsburgh and beyond.

Thumb ligaments do not heal on a hope schedule. Surgery the morning after Taylor's update, then IR, is the clean process. Bengals fans who wanted Iosivas to climb the target tree this fall now wait on the medical calendar instead of the practice report.

Week 3 at the Steelers is the first game without him. The Bengals still have Joe Burrow off the injury report as the offensive anchor. The receiver room has to redistribute the snaps Iosivas will not take for at least a month, and that redistribution starts now, not after another quiet limited stamp that never comes.

IR is not a soft rest week. It is a locked absence with a minimum. Cincinnati made that call in daylight so the depth chart can stop guessing. Young and Meyers need real route trees. The tight ends need to know when the 12 personnel look is the plan instead of a changeup.
