Avonte Maddox Foot Injury vs Bills

Detroit Lions defensive back Avonte Maddox left Thursday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills on a cart with a left foot injury and later walked out of the locker room on crutches wearing a walking boot. ESPN's Eric Woodyard reported he went down after a second-quarter collision with teammate Chuck Clark in the end zone, limped toward the sideline, then was ruled out for the rest of the night.

The Lions already lost Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph for at least the first four weeks on the reserve/PUP list. Maddox had started both of Detroit's first two games at safety next to Clark. Losing him midgame in Orchard Park left Thomas Harper and Christian Izien as the next men up, and Buffalo kept pouring it on. The Bills finished a 41-31 win with Josh Allen throwing for three touchdowns and adding two on the ground.

Campbell is nervous, Friday tests decide

After the game, Maddox was spotted on crutches with his left foot in a boot. Coach Dan Campbell told reporters he will not know the full board until Friday testing. "Maddox is pretty tough, and so when he doesn't come back, that makes me nervous," Campbell said, per Lions Wire. Clark apologized on the sideline and again after the game, calling it friendly fire on a violent play.

Fantasy IDP managers who started Maddox need him out of lineups until Detroit posts a clearer stamp. There is no official fracture call in Thursday night's notes. The next public update is Friday's medical work and whatever Campbell says after that.

Secondary stress into Jets week

Detroit hosts the New York Jets on Sunday, Sept. 27, after the short turnaround ends. Without Branch and Joseph, and with Maddox's foot loud, Harper and Izien become the immediate depth chart. Buffalo lit up the secondary for 248 passing yards and three passing scores once Maddox left. Lions fans will watch the Friday report as closely as the scoreboard.

Maddox had already dealt with a short upper-body exit in the Week 1 home opener before returning that night. This one looks louder. A cart ride, a boot, and Campbell's nervous tone are not the same as a quick sideline check. Until Friday's tests land, treat him as unavailable for IDP and defensive fantasy boards.
