Barmore Full Practice; Brown Out Week 1

Christian Barmore (knee) logged full participation Monday after sitting out Sunday, per the Patriots' second injury report ahead of Wednesday's opener at Lumen Field. That is the cleanest update New England has posted on its starting defensive tackle this week. Kickoff is set for 8:20 p.m. ET on Sep. 9 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Center Ben Brown (knee) is a different story. Brown did not practice Monday, did not travel with the club to Seattle, and has been ruled out for Week 1. Greg Van Roten, now 105 career starts into his NFL career, slots in as the top interior backup on the road. The offensive line already spent the summer adjusting around Brown's absence since the preseason opener.

Barmore back after Sunday DNP

Barmore was one of three Patriots non-participants on Sunday's first report. Monday flipped that line for the veteran. Pats Pulpit and Seahawks.com both list him as full while he continues to manage the knee. He started a career-high 16 games in 2025 and finished with 29 tackles, 11 quarterback hits, and two sacks. Getting him through a full Labor Day session before a short week is exactly the kind of noise you want before a rematch in Seattle.

Running back TreVeyon Henderson (ankle) remained a DNP for a second straight day and is already covered in depth elsewhere, including our earlier Henderson Week 1 note. Mike Vrabel said before practice they would see what Henderson could do with a few days still left on the clock. Brown's travel status removed that gray area for the center spot.

Brown's absence also closes a roster subplot from cutdown week. New England released and re-signed the versatile lineman after the 53-man deadline, then watched the knee keep him off the field through the first two injury reports of the season. With Henderson still sidelined and Brown ruled out, the short-week depth chart is already thinner than a typical Thursday night opener. Van Roten's 105 starts are the counterweight the coaching staff is leaning on in Seattle.

Short week, Seattle trip

The Patriots practiced without partial participants Monday before flying west. Seattle's report still carries limited work for Nick Emmanwori, Tory Horton, and Josh Jones, with Ty Okada a DNP. New England's Monday message is simpler: Barmore is working, Brown is out, and Henderson remains a wait-and-see. Final game statuses land on the eve of the Super Bowl rematch at Lumen Field.
