Bosa, Kittle On Track for Week 1 vs Rams

Nick Bosa and George Kittle are on the plane to Melbourne, and both are on track to play Week 1 against the Rams in Australia, per Pro Football Rumors citing NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and ESPN's Nick Wagoner.

That matters for fantasy and for San Francisco's real opener. Kittle is coming off an Achilles tear in the wild-card round after closing last season with two torn ankle ligaments. Bosa is returning from a right ACL tear in Week 3 of 2025, and he is expected to be on a snap count if he goes. The 49ers need both stars active against a Rams team sitting as Super Bowl favorites, especially with Mykel Williams on reserve/PUP for the first four games after his own ACL recovery.

Injury math into Thursday

Kittle spent much of camp on the active/PUP list and was activated late in August. The long flight was always the last big hurdle for a tight end still building durability after the Achilles. Bosa was cleared for the start of camp, then lost practice time to tendonitis that Kyle Shanahan called common for players rehabbing major injuries. Neither path has been clean. Both paths still point toward the MCG when the season opens.

Behind them the edge room is thin. Sam Okuayinonu is also on a reserve list. Keion White, who had two screws put in his ankle after a February shooting, is ready for Week 1 per Vic Tafur of The Athletic. Rookie Romello Height is dealing with an ankle issue of his own. If Bosa is capped early, White becomes the snap sponge opposite the Rams' tackle pair and the first answer when Los Angeles starts sliding protection his way.

Australia opener stakes

Kickoff is Thursday, Sep. 10 in the U.S. and Friday, Sep. 11 in Melbourne at the MCG. Division game. Opening night energy. A 49ers offense that wants Kittle as the safety valve and a defense that still builds its pass rush identity around Bosa when the ball is snapped in space. Elsewhere around the league, TreVeyon Henderson's Week 1 status remains cloudy for New England, another reminder that availability is the first story of September.

San Francisco made the trip with both headliners on the roster plane. The Rams are waiting in Australia with their own Super Bowl pedigree and a quarterback who will test every edge snap.
