Brice Turang Homer Lifts Brewers Past Dodgers in NLCS G1
By Smacktok

Brice Turang just flipped NLCS Game 1. His opposite-field solo homer off Tarik Skubal tied it in the fourth, Luis Lara's RBI single in the fifth put Milwaukee ahead, and the Brewers bullpen locked down a 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday night at American Family Field, per MLB.com and the AP.
That snaps a seven-game postseason skid against the Dodgers and flips the script from last October's sweep. Game 2 is Monday at 5 p.m. ET on FOX.
Turang stays inside the sinker
Skubal had breezed through three innings before Turang got him. Turang had fouled a first-inning sinker off his knee, then got another inside sinker in the fourth and turned it around to left for the tying shot, per ESPN.
"I didn't want to foul a ball off my knee again, so I was like 'I'm going to stay inside of this one,'" Turang said. "I just got it. Sometimes less is more." An inning later Garrett Mitchell walked, a bunt moved him up, and 21-year-old Luis Lara ripped Skubal's first-pitch changeup up the middle for the go-ahead run.
"These are the games we live for," Turang said, per MLB.com. Fantasy managers who kept Turang active through October just got the loudest kind of reminder.
Misiorowski guts it out, pen closes
Jacob Misiorowski worked 4 1/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts, per Baseball-Reference. The Dodgers loaded the bases with one out in the second after Shohei Ohtani walked and scored on Andy Pages' RBI single, but Misiorowski induced an inning-ending double play from Kiké Hernández with Cooper Pratt and Turang turning it cleanly.
DL Hall earned the win and Trevor Megill the save, with Megill surviving a ninth-inning jam after walking Kyle Tucker and pinch-hitter Josue De Paula before Mookie Betts flew out to end it, per MLB.com. Skubal took the loss.
Different Brewers this October
"Just proud of our guys," manager Pat Murphy said after Milwaukee scored two runs against one of baseball's best arms. Last year the Brewers never scored more than one run in any game of the Dodgers' sweep. One game into the rematch, they already look like a different club.
American Family Field was loud, the bullpen was filthy, and Turang's swing gave Milwaukee the series lead it needed against the two-time defending champions. Four more wins and these Brewers are headed to the World Series.
