Brock Purdy, Unbeaten 49ers Host Commanders on MNF

Brock Purdy and the unbeaten San Francisco 49ers close out Week 6 on Monday Night Football against the Washington Commanders at Levi's Stadium, with kickoff at 8:15 p.m. ET (5:15 p.m. PT) on ABC and ESPN. Purdy is chasing history, too. With five more pass attempts he qualifies for the NFL's all-time career passer rating leaderboard, and his current 105.4 rating would rank first in league history, per the 49ers.
He is also three touchdown passes shy of 100 for his career. San Francisco is 5-0. Washington is 1-3-1.
Purdy Is Rolling Without His Receivers
Through five games, Purdy is 98 of 142 for 1,196 yards and 13 touchdowns, a league high per CBS Sports, with just two interceptions. He has thrown at least two touchdown passes with a passer rating of 90 or better in every game this season.
He has done it with a beat-up receiver room. Deebo Samuel (hamstring) is out, Ricky Pearsall was lost in training camp, and Mike Evans, who has been playing through a painful rib injury, is questionable (ribs, Achilles). Christian Kirk (calf) is also questionable and could make his 49ers debut. "Possibly," Kyle Shanahan said when asked about activating him.
The defense will be without Nick Bosa, linebacker Garret Wallow and safety Marques Sigle. Fullback Kyle Juszczyk is expected back after missing the Week 5 win over Seattle with a knee injury. That 32-29 comeback over the Seahawks came with four takeaways and five sacks.
Washington Needs a Spark
Jayden Daniels came back from a two-game elbow absence last week and put up 302 total yards, including 103 on the ground and two rushing touchdowns, in a 27-27 overtime tie with the Giants. Leading rusher Jacory Croskey-Merritt (groin) is out, so expect Rachaad White and Austin Ekeler to handle most of the backfield work. Marcus Mariota (knee), Charles Omenihu and Javontae Jean-Baptiste are also out, and Stefon Diggs (hamstring) is questionable.
The number that jumps off the page: every team Washington has faced has thrown for at least 257 net yards, per CBS Sports. That is a scary look against Purdy, with a bye waiting for the Commanders after this one.
Monday Night History on the Line
San Francisco is 55-32 all-time on Monday night, tied with the Steelers for the most MNF wins in NFL history. It is also Alumni Weekend for the franchise's 80th season, and Keena Turner, who won four Super Bowls as a 49ers linebacker from 1980 to 1990, goes into the team Hall of Fame at halftime as its 34th member.
Win this one, and the Niners are 6-0 with the Monday night record all to themselves.
