Broncos Beat Seahawks 17-14 in OT on Lutz FG
By Smacktok

Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos survived a Thursday night slugfest that the box score did not want to believe. Denver beat the Seattle Seahawks 17-14 in overtime on Oct. 15 at Empower Field at Mile High after Ja'Quan McMillian intercepted Sam Darnold and Wil Lutz drilled a 53-yard game-winner.
The Broncos move to 4-2. Seattle falls to 3-3. Denver finished with only 168 total yards and three first downs against Seattle's 353. The defense still decided it under the Prime Video lights.
McMillian pick, Lutz ice
In overtime, McMillian jumped a Darnold throw intended for Rashid Shaheed at the Denver 43. Lutz then split the uprights from 53 yards. That was the night in two snaps: a secondary takeaway and a long kick when the stadium was loudest.
Seattle had forced overtime when Jason Myers hit a 34-yard field goal with three seconds left in regulation, capping an 11-0 Seahawks run. Earlier, George Holani scored on a 1-yard touchdown and Seattle converted the two-point try to Shaheed. The visitors kept finding ways to erase Denver leads until the extra period finally favored the home side.
McMillian's read on Shaheed was the kind of play defensive backs dream about on short weeks. Lutz's 53-yarder was the kind of kick kickers want on the highlight package. Together they turned a yardage mismatch into a Broncos win.
Yards lost, sacks won
Nix threw for 107 yards. J.K. Dobbins rushed for 41. Those are not highlight-reel totals. Darnold went 27-of-51 for 278 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions while eating five sacks and 17 hits. Denver's front won the trench fight even when the offense could not sustain drives.
That is the Sean Payton formula on a short week against a defending champion: bend the box score, own the takeaways, trust Lutz when the field shrinks. Broncos fans who groaned through three-and-outs still left Empower Field with a 4-2 record and a signature defensive win.
Seattle moved the ball. Denver moved the scoreboard when it mattered. Five sacks and 17 hits will do that against any quarterback, even one who finished with 278 yards.
Both sides host on Oct. 25
Seattle hosts the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 25. Denver hosts the Arizona Cardinals the same day. Broncos fans will remember the McMillian pick and the Lutz swing more than the 168 yards. Seahawks fans will remember the late Myers kick and wonder how two takeaways still became a loss.
Thursday night at Mile High belonged to the defense that refused to let the yardage gap write the ending. Nix did not need 300 yards. He needed McMillian and Lutz to finish the night. They did.
