Conforto Homers as Cubs Hit 200th of Season

Michael Conforto's solo homer in the third was the Chicago Cubs' 200th of 2026, and they held on to beat the Miami Marlins 6-5 on Saturday night at loanDepot park, per MLB.com and the Associated Press.

First team in baseball to 200. Thirteen hits. A five-out save. That is September baseball with a wild-card race attached.

200th ball leaves the yard

Conforto led off the third against Ryan Gusto and drove a 94.4 mph four-seamer a Statcast-projected 411 feet to center for his 14th homer. Chicago finished with 223 last season after 170 in 2024. Pete Crow-Armstrong (39), Alex Bregman (24), and Seiya Suzuki (24) lead the clubhouse. Conforto finished 2-for-3 with a single later.

Ian Happ's two-run single in that same inning made it 3-0. Crow-Armstrong added an RBI single in the fourth. Nico Hoerner went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Michael Busch singled home Conforto in the sixth for the 6-4 cushion. The Cubs have mashed 36 homers over their last 15 games.

Manager Craig Counsell said of the Conforto blast that you do not expect balls to leave that park to center, then added that "Michael's been doing a heck of a job."

Zeferjahn closes, wild-card math

Griffin Conine and Kyle Stowers homered for Miami. Javier Assad walked five over 4 2/3 and still left with the lead. Ryan Zeferjahn finished the last 1 2/3 innings for his fifth save and first as a Cub after an ABS review turned a called third strike into more work in the ninth.

Chicago sits a half-game ahead of Philadelphia for the top National League wild-card spot after the win. Schwarber's Phillies are right there. Saturday in Miami, Conforto's milestone swing and Zeferjahn's five outs kept the Cubs on top of that board.
