Donald Feeling Good; Week 1 Still TBD

Aaron Donald feels great. He still will not say he is playing. Speaking Monday before the Rams' Australia departure window, the three-time Defensive Player of the Year kept repeating the same line: feeling good, game plan next, see how it goes, per the Los Angeles Times via Yahoo Sports.

That is the Week 1 subplot opposite Nick Bosa's confirmed return. Los Angeles wants Donald next to Myles Garrett at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Donald, 35 and two years removed from football, is not writing that script yet.

One padded practice, day-by-day

Donald logged his first 11-on-11 on Sunday, then took Monday as a scheduled day off with cardio. Asked if he would definitely make the trip, he circled back to feel and process instead of a yes.

"I'm 35," he said, chuckling. "You don't play football in two years, you got to be smart. Even if I feel good, you still gotta be smart."

Sean McVay has called the situation day-to-day. Defensive coordinator Chris Shula said the staff is ready if Donald plays and ready if he does not, with a plan for however many snaps Donald feels he can take. Donald has 111 career sacks and is not chasing a 70-snap night.

Australia stakes with Garrett

Earlier coverage already tracked the roster traveling Down Under. Monday's quotes are the feel update, not a clearance. Garrett is expected to play. Puka Nacua is expected to play. Donald remains the open question on a defense built to win a Super Bowl now.

Thursday night Pacific (Friday morning in Melbourne) against San Francisco is the measuring stick. If Donald is active, even in a package role, the interior changes. If he sits, the Rams lean on the reps everyone else already took.

Donald said the chemistry with Garrett is part of why he came back, and that the first full practice settled after a few reps. He also admitted he is not where he wants to be yet, only "pretty damn good" for someone who has not played in two years. Davante Adams told reporters the look is familiar even if the stats are unknown. That praise does not put Donald on the MCG inactive sheet either way.

Feeling good. Not locked in. That is Donald's Week 1 status until McVay or the inactive list says otherwise.

Until the inactive list posts, treat Donald as a true game-time call on an international short week. Feel quotes buy optimism. They do not buy snaps.
