Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver is a surprise inactive for Thursday Night Football against the Detroit Lions after suffering a hip injury during warmups at Highmark Stadium. The Bills' official inactives list and a follow-up team note both stamped him OUT on Thursday evening, with no return timeline attached before kickoff.

Oliver was not listed among the expected missing pieces heading into the Week 2 home opener. Buffalo's PR account confirmed the hip injury happened in warmups and that he would not play. For a defense that leans on him in the middle, that is a last-minute hole against a Lions offense that just opened the season with a win in New Orleans.

Who else is down for Buffalo

The full inactive list also includes wide receiver Skyler Bell, running back Ty Johnson, safety Jalon Kilgore, guard Armaj Reed-Adams, tackle/guard Jude Bowry, and defensive lineman T.J. Sanders. Safety Cole Bishop is ACTIVE after being questionable on the injury report. Wide receiver Greg Dortch and running back Frank Gore Jr. were activated from the practice squad for the game.

Fantasy managers who still had Oliver in IDP lineups need to scratch him now. Detroit gets cleaner interior lanes without him, and Buffalo will lean harder on the next man up on the defensive line for a full TNF slate.

Lions at Highmark, 8:15 p.m. ET

Kickoff is 8:15 p.m. ET on Prime Video at Highmark Stadium. The Bills wanted a clean home opener after Week 1. Instead the biggest pregame story is a starter walking off the warmup field with a hip. Watch the next practice report for whether this is a one-night scare or a multi-week board.

Warmup hip. Surprise inactive. Thursday night in Orchard Park just got louder for Buffalo's front.
