Edman Homers as Dodgers Beat Nationals

Tommy Edman hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the seventh as the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied past the Washington Nationals 6-5 on Saturday night in Los Angeles, per the Associated Press and Field Level Media.

It was Los Angeles' third straight win without Shohei Ohtani. Edman filled the leadoff spot. Teoscar Hernandez handled DH. Both delivered on a night the Dodgers could not wait for their two-way star.

Seventh-inning flip

Washington led 4-2 after Daylen Lile's RBI double in the seventh against Alex Vesia. The Dodgers put two aboard with two outs against Clayton Beeter, and Edman drove a 2-1 slider into the right-field seats for his sixth homer of the season, per AP. Los Angeles added another run in the eighth when Alex Call was hit with the bases loaded.

Hernandez had already punched an RBI single in the first while subbing for Ohtani at designated hitter, and Hunter Feduccia followed with another RBI single for a quick 2-0 edge. That early lead did not hold after Keibert Ruiz and Dylan Crews helped Washington climb ahead, but the seventh-inning blast flipped the game for good.

Edman also made a leaping catch at the center-field wall earlier, per the Los Angeles Times. He was everywhere in Ohtani's leadoff seat.

Glasnow, Vesia, Scott, Ohtani watch

Tyler Glasnow allowed four runs over six-plus innings and did not factor in the decision. Vesia (2-1) got the win after that messy seventh. Tanner Scott worked the ninth for his 21st save after giving up an RBI single to Lile. Cade Cavalli threw six innings for Washington with two runs allowed and eight strikeouts after a rocky start, retiring 15 of his last 16 batters.

Ohtani remains uncertain for Sunday's series finale, with an injured-list move still possible, per AP. Dave Roberts said Ohtani did not report pain after hitting in the cages during the game, and the club planned to evaluate him again before the finale, per the Los Angeles Times. Until that clears, Los Angeles keeps winning with stand-ins.

Edman in the leadoff spot and Hernandez at DH is not the October blueprint, but it worked for a third straight night. A three-run seventh, a messy ninth, and Scott's 21st save got the Dodgers out of Dodger Stadium with another win.
