Garrett Wilson Out for Jets at Chiefs
By Smacktok
•

Garrett Wilson is out for the Jets' Week 9 game at the Kansas City Chiefs with a concussion, head coach Aaron Glenn said Friday. Linebacker Trevin Wallace (groin) is also out. Wilson did not practice Wednesday through Friday after a helmet-to-helmet hit late in Week 8 against the Raiders, and Glenn made the designation official ahead of Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium (1 p.m. ET, CBS).
Wilson leads New York with 43 catches for 527 yards and three touchdowns and saw 12 targets last week. Losing that volume on the road against Kansas City is a different Jets offense, even with Breece Hall expected back from a five-game quad absence after a full Friday practice.
Concussion Protocol After the Raiders Hit
The helmet-to-helmet contact against Las Vegas put Wilson in protocol, and three straight DNPs sealed Friday's call. Glenn did not leave wiggle room. Wilson will not dress at Arrowhead. Wallace joins him on the out list with a groin issue that also kept him from a clear week of work.
Edge David Bailey and tight end Mason Taylor are expected to play. Questions remain around Ossai, Phillips, and Wright. The headline for the skill group is still Wilson missing and Hall returning.
Hall Back, Targets Shift
Hall's full Friday after five games out is the other half of the Jets' Week 9 story. New York needs a runner who can finish drives if the passing game is missing its lead target. Adonai Mitchell and Omar Cooper become the next men up in the route tree with Wilson ruled out, not listed as a game-time decision.
Arrowhead in November is loud and the Chiefs defense will dare whoever is under center to force the ball without Wilson. Hall's presence keeps the offense from going empty, but the target share above him is wide open.
Road Test Without the Alpha
Sunday is Jets at Chiefs, not a home soft spot. Wilson's season numbers made him the clear WR1. With him out and Hall expected back, New York has to win with short areas, checkdowns, and whatever Mitchell and Cooper can create against Kansas City's secondary.
Smacktok pick lean: Lean higher on Adonai Mitchell and Omar Cooper targets with Wilson already ruled out. Lean Breece Hall rush and receptions IF he is active after the full Friday. If Hall is a late scratch, do not force the backfield play.
Wilson out, Hall expected back, Arrowhead waiting. That is the Jets' Week 9 math.
