Giannis Antetokounmpo, Heat Visit Lakers Tonight

Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Miami Heat walk into Crypto.com Arena tonight to face Luka Doncic and the Lakers at 7 PM PT (10 PM ET). Miami has won two straight, and Giannis is coming off a 31-point, 18-rebound, 10-assist triple-double in a 145-125 win over Indiana on Friday.

This is the big NBA matchup on a busy Monday night. Two of the best players in the world, two teams trending in opposite directions, and the Lakers playing the second night of a back-to-back after Doncic dropped 45 on Toronto on Sunday.

Giannis in Miami

Miami is 2-4, but the start is not the whole story. The Heat lost their first four games, then beat Atlanta 129-117 on the road and smoked the Pacers at home. Giannis did his damage against Indiana in just 31 minutes.

The numbers that matter for Giannis so far: 28.2 points and 12.3 rebounds per game, both team highs, per ESPN's season leaders. Davion Mitchell runs the show with 8.2 assists a night.

Miami's only injury listing is Tim Hardaway Jr., who is day to day for a personal matter, according to the AP preview.

Luka and a Lakers Team on a Roll

The Lakers are 5-2 and fourth in the West. Doncic is averaging 37.7 points a game, and on Sunday he put up 45 points and 15 rebounds in a 131-125 win over the Raptors. He also made a point afterward of talking up his improved defense, and that end of the floor gets a real test tonight with Giannis attacking the rim.

Walker Kessler leads the Lakers at 9.9 rebounds per game, and his battle with Giannis on the glass is the matchup inside the matchup. Los Angeles lists Adou Thiero and Ziaire Williams as out.

What to Watch

The back-to-back is the swing factor. The Lakers played Sunday night at home, while Miami has not played since Friday. If the Heat can make Doncic work on defense and keep the pace up, tired legs could show late.

On the other side, Miami's defense has to find an answer for a guy averaging nearly 38 a game.

Smacktok lean: lean higher on Giannis rebounds. He grabbed 18 on Friday, he leads Miami at 12.3 a game, and he gets a Lakers team on zero days of rest. Kessler will make him earn every board, but Giannis has owned the glass for Miami all season.
