Henderson Day-to-Day for Patriots Week 1

TreVeyon Henderson is day-to-day after missing New England Patriots practice all week with an ankle issue ahead of the Week 1 opener against the Seattle Seahawks, per SI's Patriots on SI. Coach Mike Vrabel, asked Friday on WEEI's The Greg Hill Show about the second-year back's status, kept it simple: "We're all day-to-day."

That is not a clean bill of health. It is also not a shutdown. New England still has a few practices left before kickoff Wednesday, Sep. 9.

Ankle since late August

Henderson suffered a minor ankle injury in a late-August practice and has not been on the field this week. He and tight end Cameron Latu have been spotted in the locker room Tuesday and Thursday. Center Ben Brown has also been out all week after a preseason injury. Vrabel said the club will go by what it sees each day and stay flexible if something changes.

As a rookie in 2025, Henderson ran for 911 yards and nine touchdowns, added 221 receiving yards and one score, and finished as an Offensive Rookie of the Year finalist behind Carolina's Tetairoa McMillan. Against this Seattle defense in Super Bowl LX he had six carries for 19 yards and three catches for 26.

Stevenson, Kiner, practice-squad options

Without Henderson, more of the early-down and receiving work falls to Rhamondre Stevenson, with Corey Kiner (acquired from Arizona for a 2028 seventh-round pick) next up. SI noted a possible practice-squad elevation if Henderson is ruled out or tagged, with Lan Larison a fit for the receiving and special-teams profile Henderson brings.

Kiner won the summer battle for the third spot after New England moved on from Hassan Haskins and others on the active roster, though Haskins and Larison both returned on the practice squad. That depth chart only matters if Henderson cannot go. If he practices this weekend, the day-to-day label can still flip toward available before Wednesday.

Saturday's work will tell more than Friday's radio line. Week 1 at Lumen Field is the first real stress test of New England's backfield depth after a summer of Stevenson-Henderson shared carries. Latu and Brown being out the same week only raises the snap-count questions on offense, even if Vrabel refuses to hand out firm game statuses yet.
