Jaxson Dart Believed to Have Sprained MCL

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart is believed to have suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee on the opening drive of Monday Night Football at the Los Angeles Rams, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo. Dart went down after Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart tangled him on a third-and-8 throw, clutched the knee, and eventually walked off with a limp. X-rays at SoFi were negative. An MRI is scheduled for Tuesday, and the early read is that he will miss some time without a season-ending stamp.
General manager Joe Schoen told ESPN's Laura Rutledge that Dart is going to be OK. Head coach John Harbaugh would not rubber-stamp the exact ligament label postgame, but said a sprained MCL is in the neighborhood and that Tuesday's MRI will give a real feel. Dart completed 3 of 5 passes for 20 yards before exiting and watched the second half in street clothes after trying to re-enter earlier.
Jameis Winston took over and finished 11 of 27 for 111 yards with an interception in the 28-6 loss. Soft fantasy note only: bank the sprained-MCL board and the Tuesday MRI window. Do not invent a Week 3 snap share for Winston from one relief night. The Giants host the Titans on Sunday with a short turnaround after the red-eye from Los Angeles.
Dart entered Monday off a 230-yard, three-touchdown win over Dallas, one of the strongest nights of his young career. That spark is on hold until the MRI lands. New York already lost Deonte Banks to the inactive list before kickoff and watched Malik Nabers pop a shoulder back into place. Adding a Week 2 quarterback scare is the nightmare board Giants fans did not want after an encouraging opener.
Negative X-rays. Optimism from the GM. Tuesday decides how long Winston stays under center and how fantasy rooms treat the Giants offense into Titans week.
Knee board Tuesday
Believed sprained MCL. MRI next. Miss some time.
Winston holds the keys for now. Giants wait on the scan.
