Jayden Daniels had the Commanders sitting at the Giants 24 with a makeable kick on the table, and then the clock just ran out. Daniels held the ball on second-and-8, went down for no gain, Washington had no timeouts left, and the offense never got lined up to spike it before overtime expired. Final at Northwest Stadium: Commanders 27, Giants 27, per the AP.

That is the NFL's first tie of the season, per CBS Sports, and it lands very differently in each locker room. The Giants (3-1-1) still sit on top of the NFC East after the Eagles and Cowboys both lost, per Giants.com. Washington goes to 1-3-1 and has to live with this one all week.

Jayden Daniels was great right up until the end

This was Daniels' first game back since dislocating his left elbow for the second time in Week 2, and he played it wearing a brace, per the AP. He went 17 of 25 for 199 yards and ran nine times for 103 yards and two touchdowns, per ESPN's box score.

The runs were the highlight. A 38-yard scamper in the third quarter, the longest rushing touchdown of his career per Giants.com, made it 19-6. A 26-yarder early in the fourth, plus a two-point throw to Terry McLaurin, pushed it to 27-13 with 11:05 left. McLaurin was back from a hamstring injury and caught four balls for 62 yards.

If you started Daniels in fantasy, you got a monster rushing line. You just had to watch the ending through your fingers.

Jameis Winston and the Giants storm back

Down 14 in the fourth, Jameis Winston caught fire. He hit Isaiah Likely for a 17-yard score midway through the quarter, Likely's second touchdown of the day, then found Malik Nabers from 17 yards out to tie it with 1:43 left, per the AP. Winston finished 33 of 54 for 326 yards and three touchdowns. Nabers had 11 catches for 121 yards, and Likely had 11 for 94.

New York had chances to win it outright. Rookie kicker Dominic Zvada went 2 of 5 on field goals in the rain, including a 46-yard miss on the opening drive of overtime, per Giants.com. Then, with the Giants at the Washington 24 right after the two-minute warning, Daron Payne ripped the ball away from Cam Skattebo and Washington recovered.

How the final play fell apart

Daniels moved the Commanders right back into range. McLaurin tight-roped the sideline for 16 yards, Daniels scrambled for 16 more, and Washington reached the Giants 24, per Giants.com. A kick from there would have been about 42 yards for Drew Stevens.

Instead, the play looked like a pass, Daniels never threw it, and he went down for no gain, per CBS Sports. The offense could not get set for a spike, the clock hit zero, and Dan Quinn ripped off his headset in disgust, per the AP. Giants defenders celebrated like they had just won the game.

A tie feels like a loss in Landover tonight. Washington had a 14-point lead and then a game-winning kick lined up, and it walks away with neither, while the Giants leave still leading the division and very aware they got a gift.
