Kawhi Leonard Trade to Raptors Is Official

Kawhi Leonard is officially a Toronto Raptor again. The Raptors completed their trade with the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday after months on hold while the NBA finished its salary-cap circumvention probe into Leonard and the Clippers organization, Reuters reported.

Toronto sends Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two unprotected first-round picks (2031 and 2033), a 2027 first-round swap, and second-rounders in 2030 and 2033, per team announcements and reporting from ESPN's Shams Charania and Hoops Wire. Leonard returns to the city where he won the 2019 title, and Raptors general manager Bobby Webster said the club is "thrilled to welcome Kawhi back to Toronto."

Why the deal sat on ice

Toronto paused the agreement in July after the league warned the Raptors would assume risk if the probe hurt Leonard's availability or contract. The NBA closed the investigation earlier this month. Leonard was fined $700,000 and was not suspended. The Clippers took a $30 million fine, lost five first-round picks from 2029 through 2033, and saw owner Steve Ballmer and president of business operations Gillian Zucker suspended for a year, with president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank suspended for six months.

Ballmer initially said the Clippers "vehemently reject" the findings. On Sunday he said Los Angeles would comply, had paid the fine, and would move forward. That cleared the last practical hurdle for the trade call.

Leonard averaged a career-high 27.9 points last season and finished seventh in MVP voting. He is in the final year of his deal at about $50.3 million and waived his trade kicker to help the move land. The Raptors stay hard-capped at the first apron but can finally plan for a real roster, not a hypothetical one.

What Toronto gets now

Leonard, Ingram, and Dick had already been around their new teams as much as league rules allowed while paperwork waited. Now the paperwork is done. Clippers fans lose a two-way star and watch a draft cupboard empty. Raptors fans get the player who delivered the franchise's only championship, back in red for a season that suddenly has a different ceiling.

The Clippers still have to rebuild a wing rotation without Leonard and without those future firsts. Toronto still has to figure out minutes, load management, and how Ingram's exit changes the second unit. Both fronts are louder now that the trade is real instead of theoretical.
