Tucker Sparks Dodgers NL West Clinch

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Kyle Tucker went 4-for-5 with a first-inning home run, two doubles, a single, and three RBI as Los Angeles clinched its fifth consecutive NL West title with an 8-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday in Cincinnati. The Associated Press and ESPN both logged the same board: Tucker fell a triple short of the cycle, the Dodgers improved to 93-60, and the division stamp is Los Angeles' 13th in 14 seasons.

The two-time World Series champions had already locked a 14th straight postseason berth earlier in the week. Thursday's clinch opened a 9 1/2-game lead on second-place San Diego and kept Los Angeles chasing Milwaukee for the top National League seed. It was the franchise's fourth-earliest division clinch after Sept. 10, 2019, Sept. 13, 2022, and Sept. 16, 2023.

How Tucker stacked the afternoon

Tucker took Brady Singer deep for a two-run shot in the first, his 16th homer of the season. Freddie Freeman's sacrifice fly and another Tucker RBI double pushed the lead in the second. Max Muncy's two-run double and Josue De Paula's RBI single made it 7-0 in the fourth. Singer lasted 3 1/3 innings and allowed seven runs on nine hits and four walks. Justin Wrobleski threw three perfect innings with three strikeouts in his first start since Sept. 6, and Landon Knack followed with four scoreless frames for his first big league win since May 31 of last year.

Fantasy managers who rode Tucker through the stretch just got a division-clinching multi-hit stamp with extra-base noise. Miguel Rojas added a ninth-inning homer off Brandon Williamson for the final margin. Manager Dave Roberts also confirmed Edwin Diaz finished his rehab and will be activated this weekend, a separate bullpen board already tracked midday.

Next: Giants and the top-seed chase

Tyler Glasnow (4-1, 3.50) is lined up Friday against San Francisco. Los Angeles still wants the No. 1 or No. 2 NL seed for a first-round bye. Milwaukee entered Thursday at 95-58, so the Dodgers' remaining schedule is about seeding as much as champagne. Tucker is the loudest bat in the clinch box score, and October now has a division banner behind it.
