Macklin Celebrini's OT Winner Lifts Sharks Past Canadiens
By Smacktok
•

Macklin Celebrini ended it in overtime. The San Jose Sharks star buried a one-timer on a power play at 2:13 of the extra period for his second goal of the night, and the Sharks came back to beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-3 on Tuesday at Bell Centre.
San Jose was down two goals in the third period and needed this one after a 3-1 loss at Toronto the night before, per The Associated Press. The win moved the Sharks to 5-4-1.
Macklin Celebrini had a hand in three goals
Celebrini opened the scoring himself with an unassisted goal at 13:49 of the first period, per the ESPN scoring summary. Montreal then took over. Nick Suzuki tied it late in the first, Juraj Slafkovsky scored early in the second, and Cole Caufield made it 3-1 at 14:03 of the second.
Celebrini set up the tying goal and then finished the job. He fed Tyler Toffoli on a power play with 8:51 left in regulation, with Arber Xhekaj in the box for unsportsmanlike conduct, and Toffoli buried it to make it 3-3.
In overtime, Montreal goalie Jakub Dobes was called for interference on Collin Graf. On the ensuing power play, Celebrini fired a one-timer into the top-left corner, with assists to Ivar Stenberg and Will Smith. It was his fifth goal of the season.
If you only watch one clip from this game, make it the overtime winner. That is the shot Sharks fans have been waiting to see him take every night.
Michael Misa got the comeback started
Michael Misa, who hit the post earlier in the third, scored his first goal of the season at 5:36 to cut the lead to 3-2. He finished a feed from Kiefer Sherwood after Montreal defenseman Lane Hutson turned the puck over.
Alex Nedeljkovic made 31 saves to keep the Sharks within reach while they chased. Dobes stopped 26 at the other end.
For Sharks fans, Misa getting his first of the season to start the rally and Celebrini ending it is about as good as a Tuesday in Montreal gets.
A familiar collapse for Montreal
Slafkovsky, Caufield and Suzuki each had a goal and an assist for the Canadiens, who fell to 4-3-2. AP noted it was the fourth time this season Montreal has given up a two-goal lead.
Habs fans will not want to see that stat again. Xhekaj's penalty opened the door for the tying goal, and Dobes' interference call in overtime opened it again.
What's next
The Sharks play at Ottawa on Thursday night and at Boston on Saturday. The Canadiens play at Chicago on Friday night.
Celebrini played on both power play goals and has five goals already, so if you need a skater for Thursday in Ottawa, he is the Shark to start, with Toffoli a cheap add after scoring off his feed on the power play.
