Marvin Harrison Jr. is a Texan. Houston sent 2027 second and sixth-round picks to the Arizona Cardinals for Harrison and a 2027 seventh-rounder, per ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, reuniting the former No. 4 pick with his Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud.

The stakes are wild for a 1-4 team. Houston made the move right after its first win of the season, a 26-3 rout of the Titans in Nashville, and DeMeco Ryans broke the news himself to end his press conference: "We traded for Marvin Harrison. See ya!" per the AP.

The Stroud connection

This is the part Texans fans are buzzing about. Stroud and Harrison played two seasons together in Columbus, and in Harrison's second year he led the Buckeyes with 77 catches, 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns, per Pro Football Rumors. Stroud vouched for him when Houston's front office asked, and Houston badly needed a spark after an 0-4 start that ended with a 34-30 home loss to Dallas the week before.

"Probably the hardest worker I've ever been around in my life," Stroud said Sunday, per Texans Wire. "I think he brings us a dynamic playmaker. Somebody who runs great routes, can catch really any ball."

Why Arizona moved on

Harrison never became the star the Cardinals drafted. He totaled 108 catches for 1,578 yards and 13 touchdowns in Arizona, per CBS Sports, and was inactive Sunday against Detroit while the deal was finalized. Since 2024 he ranks 70th out of 130 wideouts in yards per route run (1.54), per ESPN's Bill Barnwell.

CBS Sports Research says he is the first wide receiver drafted in the top five to be traded within his first three seasons since Ahmad Rashad in 1974. The price is what makes it work for Houston: Harrison is due $5.62 million in 2027, per ESPN, and Arizona already paid his signing bonus. Barnwell projects his fifth-year option at about $17.2 million.

Fantasy fans, Harrison next to Nico Collins with his college QB is at least worth a bench stash this week.

London is the first look

Harrison is expected to join Stroud this week before the Texans head to London to face the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium. Houston sits three games back of Jacksonville in the AFC South, so there is no time for a slow ramp.

If Stroud and Harrison find that Ohio State rhythm against the division leader, this trade goes from head-scratcher to season-saver in one Sunday.
