McDavid Shaken at Oilers Camp, Stays On

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid gave camp a jolt Friday when new defenseman Shakir Mukhamadullin drove him into the net, leaving McDavid slow to get up and holding his arm before he stayed on the ice and scored the ensuing penalty shot. Sportsnet reported the scare from the Friday scrimmage, and teammates who spoke afterward sounded calm even as McDavid kept testing the arm after the goal.

Mukhamadullin, acquired from San Jose with Zack Sharp in the Darnell Nurse trade, is early in his Oilers pairing work with Mattias Ekholm. The collision sent McDavid sliding into the crease and goalie Connor Ungar. McDavid skated to center holding and moving the arm, waved off the trainer, then answered with a shootout-style finish on the penalty shot.

What is known (and what is not)

The Oilers did not issue an injury designation after practice. Zach Hyman told reporters McDavid "quieted any doubt right after on that penalty shot move" and called it part of camp. Ekholm confirmed he had already spoken with Mukhamadullin about the play. That is the full public board: a scary visual, no official injury stamp, and a captain who finished the session.

Smacktok fans should treat this as a watch item into preseason, not a locked absence. Inventing a diagnosis would be guessing. Until Edmonton posts something firmer, the report is the hit, the arm hold, the stay-on-ice response, and the goal that followed.

Camp is still early. One bang into the net does not rewrite the Oilers' season plan, but every clip of McDavid holding an arm will travel fast on a roster built around him.

Preseason opens Saturday

Edmonton opens the preseason at home Saturday against the Winnipeg Jets. How McDavid looks in that first exhibition window will matter more than Friday's jump-scare clip.

Camp hit. Arm check. Penalty-shot answer. No injury listed yet. That is the McDavid board overnight.
