Mikael Granlund, Ducks Hand Jets First Regulation Loss

Mikael Granlund and the Ducks just handed the Jets their first regulation loss of the season. Granlund had a goal and an assist, and so did Tim Washe and Judd Caulfield, as Anaheim rolled to a 5-1 win at Canada Life Centre on Friday night, per NHL.com.
Winnipeg came in 3-0-1 and riding a three-game win streak. Anaheim walked out 3-1-0 and has won its first two road games of a season for just the fourth time in franchise history.
The fourth line stole the show
Washe, Caulfield and Jeff Malott combined for six points, and all three had the first multipoint game of their NHL careers.
Caulfield opened the scoring at 14:41 of the first period, jamming in the rebound of a Malott shot for his first NHL goal. He did it in front of 10 family members who drove about 145 miles north from Grand Forks, North Dakota.
"It was super special with the family here," Caulfield said. "I don't think my grandma's been to a game in a while."
Washe made it 2-0 at 5:20 of the second, finishing a 2-on-1 with Malott.
"(Our fourth line) had a special night," coach Joel Quenneville said. "We couldn't ask for anything more."
Granlund put it away
Sam Colangelo made it 3-0 at 4:25 of the third off a backhand feed from Beckett Sennecke. Kyle Connor answered on a breakaway at 10:36 for his sixth goal of the season and the 329th of his career, moving him past Ilya Kovalchuk into sole possession of third on the Jets and Thrashers all-time list.
Any comeback hopes died at 14:06, when Granlund ripped a wrist shot from just inside the blue line for a 4-1 lead. Nikita Nesterenko added an empty-netter at 19:19. Lukas Dostal only needed 15 saves.
Sennecke keeps stacking points
Sennecke had two assists and now has six points in a four-game season-opening point streak. At 20 years and 254 days, he is the youngest forward to open a season with a point streak of four-plus games since Elias Pettersson in 2018-19.
Fantasy hockey fans, if Sennecke is still sitting on your waiver wire, that will not last.
Winnipeg coach Scott Arniel pointed to the grind of five games in eight nights. "Of all the teams I wanted to face in the fifth game in eight nights, it was probably not that team," he said. "They're big and they can move."
The Ducks are fast, deep and rolling four lines. If Granlund and the kids keep this up, Anaheim is going to be a problem on every road trip this season.
