Evans Cleared Path Toward Week 3 Return

Mike Evans' hip issue does not appear major, and Ian Rapoport said on Good Morning Football there is a good chance the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver practices later this week and plays Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals after sitting out Wednesday. Rapoport grouped Evans with other soft-tissue watches and stressed the injury "does not seem to be major."
That positive Thursday stamp is the board. Soft fantasy note only: a good chance is not an inactive-list lock. Evans still needs to show up on the practice field before you treat him as a full Week 3 starter.
San Francisco's receiver room is already thin. Demarcus Robinson is out for a stretch, Ricky Pearsall is done for the season, Christian Kirk is on injured reserve, and De'Zhuan Stribling is out roughly 10 weeks. Evans has nine catches for 103 yards and one touchdown on 10 targets through two games.
Without Evans, the 49ers would lean on Deebo Samuel, Jacob Cowing, Jordan Watkins, and Khadarel Hodge. That is not a depth chart anyone wants to trust for a full Sunday. A Cardinals matchup is the soft landing if Evans can clear the hip.
49ers fans have lived the injury carousel for two seasons. Evans was supposed to be the stable No. 1 for Brock Purdy. A Wednesday DNP rattled the timeline. Rapoport's update put the timeline back on the rails without inventing a guarantee.
Cardinals fans should still prepare for Evans on the boundary if Thursday and Friday practices hold. Soft fantasy note only: start Evans only after he practices. Until then he is a watch list name, not a locked projection.
Purdy needs a true boundary threat if the Cardinals pack the box against the run. Evans is that threat when healthy. A hip that Rapoport calls non-major is the best news San Francisco has had in a thin receiver room all month. The next step is simple: show up Thursday or Friday and move.
Fantasy managers should not jump early. A Wednesday absence still exists on the report. The positive read only buys patience. Watch the practice participation, then decide whether Evans is a locked play or a game-time lean against Arizona.
49ers board
Evans: hip. Wed DNP. Rapoport: not major, good chance he practices and goes.
WR depth already missing Robinson, Pearsall, Kirk, Stribling.
Kickoff: 49ers at Cardinals, Sunday Week 3.

Believe the positive hip read, then wait for a real practice stamp before you spend Evans as a locked WR1 on Sunday.
