Odunze Active for Week 1 vs Panthers

Rome Odunze is active for the Chicago Bears' season opener against the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, a 1 p.m. ET FOX kickoff, after he stayed off the official inactive list Sunday morning. The second-year wideout had been questionable with a calf injury. Fantasy and DFS rooms that waited on the final stamp just got the green light.

That is the update Bears fans wanted after a week of limited reps. Odunze missed early-week practices, worked limited Thursday and Friday, then told reporters Friday he planned to play. Sunday's inactive sheet made it official: he is available for Caleb Williams when Chicago opens on the road in Carolina.

Inactive list clears the calf cloud

Chicago's inactive list Sunday did not include Odunze. The Bears listed Miller Moss, Tyson Bagent, Xavier Woods, Jamree Kromah, Jordan McFadden, Ozzy Trapilo, and Jayden Loving as inactive. Case Keenum is the backup quarterback. Bagent is the emergency third. Moss was elevated Saturday and still sits for Week 1.

CBS Sports had already framed Odunze as in line to play after the Friday comments. Shaw Local and the NFL.com inactive reports locked the Sunday confirmation. A plans-to-play quote is one thing. Seeing his name stay off the inactive sheet is the version managers can trust before kickoff. The calf story that dominated the early week is now a game-day availability story, not a scratch.

Burden and Odunze for Williams

Odunze joins Luther Burden as a top target for Williams in Charlotte. Carolina's secondary will have to account for both, and the Bears offense needs that vertical layer after a quiet camp stretch for the receiving room that needed a clear Week 1 answer at wide receiver. If the calf holds through warmups, Odunze is a flex-plus option in most formats and a live dart in DFS stacks with Williams on the road.

Redraft managers who faded him Friday night on the questionable tag should flip that script. Best-ball rooms that already locked him as a WR2/3 get the opener they drafted for. The Panthers defense can still press and disrupt timing, but an active Odunze changes how Carolina has to play the first snap.

Bears fans who sweat every calf tweet all week can exhale for one Sunday. Odunze is active. Charlotte is the venue. FOX has the window. Check warmups if you are on the fence, then ride the confirmation the inactive list already gave you.
