Roman Wilson Out Multiple Weeks With Finger Injury
By Smacktok
•

Roman Wilson is going to miss more than a week. The Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver is expected to miss a couple of weeks after a finger injury in Sunday's 34-22 win over the Indianapolis Colts, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Monday.
That is a real hit to a receiver room already running thin. Michael Pittman Jr. went on injured reserve Saturday with a foot injury, and Ben Skowronek left Sunday with a calf injury. Wilson was supposed to be the next man up. Now he is gathering more information and seeking a second opinion, per Fowler.
How the finger went wrong
Wilson got hurt late in the first half on a throw from Aaron Rodgers. A Colts defender got a hand on the ball at the catch point, and Wilson injured his left ring finger as the two went to the ground, per Steelers Depot. He grabbed at his left hand and wrist, came off the field, and did not return.
He was seen after the game walking through the stadium tunnel with his left hand heavily wrapped, alongside Pittman on a scooter, per ESPN's Kimberley Martin. The early read was a dislocation. Monday's report that he will miss multiple weeks suggests it may be more than a quick pop-back-in and tape job.
What Pittsburgh has left
Wilson, 25, was off to a solid start in his third season. He had 14 catches on 25 targets for 188 yards and two touchdowns through five weeks, and he entered Sunday with the second-most receiving targets on the team, per ESPN. He logged 20 snaps and one target before leaving the Colts game, per RotoWire.
With Wilson and Pittman sidelined, the healthy receivers on the 53 are DK Metcalf, rookies Germie Bernard and Kaden Wetjen, and Brandon Smith, who was elevated from the practice squad Saturday, per ESPN and SI. Bernard caught 6 of 9 targets for 80 yards Sunday and drew praise from Mike McCarthy and Rodgers, per Steelers Depot.
Fantasy managers looking for a Steelers WR dart this week should start with Bernard on waivers before chasing Wilson's return date.
Next up at Tampa Bay
Pittsburgh faces the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6, and Wilson is unlikely to be ready for that one if the "couple of weeks" timeline holds. Depending on the second opinion, he could even be out through the Steelers' Week 9 bye, per Steelers Depot.
Metcalf remains the clear alpha, but the supporting cast just got younger and thinner overnight. If Bernard keeps earning Rodgers' trust, this injury is the opening that turns a midseason depth chart into a real depth chart fight.
