Sean McVay had to deliver the news no Rams fan wanted to hear Monday: Davante Adams is out six to 10 weeks.

McVay said Adams ruptured his semitendinosus, a hamstring muscle, late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 18-16 home loss to the Cardinals while running a route into the end zone. Adams will have a procedure performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, and hopes to come back on the front end of that window, as close to the Rams' post-Week 11 bye as possible.

It's a gut punch for a 2-4 team that opened the season as the Super Bowl favorite. Adams, 33, has 30 catches for 480 yards and four touchdowns in six games, and his 16.0 yards per catch would be the best mark of his career.

How the Davante Adams injury happened

It came on the Rams' last-minute drive. With 1:18 left, Adams was alone in the end zone after a 7-yard pass from Matthew Stafford to Kyren Williams when he started grabbing at his left leg and limped to the sideline. It looked like a non-contact injury.

McVay's injury list keeps growing

Adams wasn't the only bad news from McVay's Monday press conference:

  • Nose tackle Poona Ford is out for the season with a ruptured triceps.

  • Kobie Turner will miss "a handful of weeks" with a groin injury and is likely headed to injured reserve.

  • Kicker Blake Grupe, signed just last week, tore his ACL and went on injured reserve Monday. The Rams will work out veterans Brandon McManus and Matt Prater on Tuesday, sources told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

  • Pass rusher Myles Garrett, out since knee surgery in mid-September, will not return to practice this week.

There was one hopeful note. Cornerback Trent McDuffie, who missed Sunday with a groin injury, is "feeling much better," McVay said. "The hope is progress this week and kind of determine his status at the end of this week."

The betting market noticed. The Rams opened the year at 5-1 to win the Super Bowl at DraftKings, slid to 10-1 after the Cardinals loss and sat at 12-1 after the Adams news, per ESPN Research.

Who catches the ball now

Puka Nacua is the headliner again. Behind him, the Rams have Konata Mumpfield, Jordan Whittington, Tutu Atwell, CJ Daniels and Alex Bachman on the roster. McVay said the team will talk about whether to add a receiver.

Fantasy lean: with Adams out, Puka Nacua's weekly target share is the one to bank on.

The Rams visit the Raiders at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 25 (4:25 p.m. ET, FOX). At 2-4 with Adams down, that one feels a lot closer to must-win than any October game should.
