Shelton Beats Tiafoe to Reach US Open Final

Ben Shelton beat Frances Tiafoe 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 in Friday's all-American US Open semifinal to reach his first Grand Slam final. The No. 8 seed will face top seed Alexander Zverev on Sunday, one win from becoming the first American man to take a major since Andy Roddick at the 2003 US Open.

Shelton is also the first Black American man to reach a US Open singles final since Arthur Ashe in 1972. He closed a 3-hour, 17-minute grind with 20 aces to Tiafoe's three and the same serve-first toughness that knocked out Carlos Alcaraz in the quarters.

Zverev waits with an 0-5 ledger

Shelton is 0-5 against Zverev, with all five meetings in 2024 and 2025. Zverev already won the French Open this year and beat Karen Khachanov in straight sets Friday. Sunday is still the clearest American men's Slam shot in a generation.
