Shelton vs Tiafoe in US Open Semis

Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe collide Friday night in an all-American US Open semifinal on Arthur Ashe, with the winner becoming the first U.S. man in the final since Taylor Fritz in 2024. Eighth-seeded Shelton faces 11th-seeded Tiafoe at about 7 p.m. ET on ESPN after Alexander Zverev and Karen Khachanov open the night session earlier in the day.

Home fans already lived through two wild quarterfinals to get here. Shelton stunned defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in five sets that ended at 3:33 a.m., the latest finish in US Open history. Tiafoe clawed back from two sets down to beat Alex Michelsen and reach New York's final four for a third time, after also punching his semis ticket in the prior round coverage.

How both Americans got here

Shelton's win over Alcaraz was the biggest of his career and his first against the seven-time Slam champion. It also made him only the second American man in the last two decades to beat a top-three opponent at the US Open, after Tiafoe took down Rafael Nadal en route to the 2022 semis. Shelton is chasing his first Grand Slam final after a 2023 US Open semifinal run and a straight-set charge earlier in this draw.

Tiafoe's path was pure New York theater: 5-7, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6 (10-6) against Michelsen. He already owns semis in 2022 and 2024. The winner Friday keeps alive the hunt for the first American men's Slam champion since Andy Roddick in 2003.

Zverev-Khachanov first, then the US duel

ESPN has Zverev vs Khachanov first starting around 3 p.m. ET, with Chris Fowler and John McEnroe on the Shelton-Tiafoe call and Chris Eubanks courtside. Zverev is the only player to reach all four Grand Slam semis in 2026 and the reigning French Open champion. Khachanov is back in a major semis for the first time since the 2023 Australian Open.
