Ohtani Looks Closer as Dodgers Eye NLDS

Shohei Ohtani is showing harder contact and cleaner strike-zone judgment in his first games back from the 15-day injured list as the Los Angeles Dodgers point toward NLDS Game 1 on Oct. 3 with a first-round bye locked, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday. In two games since reinstatement he is 3-for-9 with a double, an RBI, a walk, and three strikeouts.

That form stamp is the board. Soft fantasy note only: two games of exit velocity do not invent an October counting line. Ride the at-bats, then reassess after the Giants series.

Thursday at Dodger Stadium, Ohtani went 2-for-5 for his first multi-hit game since Aug. 26, including a run-scoring double in the ninth off Padres closer Mason Miller's 102.6 mph fastball. Freddie Freeman called that ball special. Average exit velocity Thursday sat at 101.9 mph, the Times noted.

Dodgers fans watched the same night San Diego clinch, then exhaled when Cincinnati beat Atlanta and locked Los Angeles a bye and NLDS home-field edge. Soft fantasy note only: a bye is calendar relief, not a free fantasy playoff projection for every name.

Manager Dave Roberts said Ohtani will play all three remaining regular-season games against the San Francisco Giants to stack at-bats. Ohtani will not pitch again this season. Soft fantasy note only: treat him as a lineup staple through the finish, not as a dual-threat streamer.

Before the IL stint (placed Sep 11, backdated to Sep 8), Ohtani hit .130 from Aug. 18 through Sep 7 with 22 strikeouts in 14 games while dealing with knee inflammation and biceps tightness. Club president Andrew Friedman told reporters the injuries affected him and forced subconscious protection. Soft fantasy note only: the slump stamp is context, not a reason to cut him for October.

The number the club is visualizing is eleven, as in eleven postseason wins toward a third straight World Series title. Soft fantasy note only: three-peat talk is fuel. Wait for the NLDS roster and the first series box scores.

Roberts also praised Ohtani's early-count discipline, including taking the first slider from Robbie Ray for a ball Wednesday after weeks of chase-heavy swings. Soft fantasy note only: zone judgment is a green flag for October, not a free pass to invent a 1.200 Wild Card OPS.

Dodgers board

Ohtani post-IL: 3-for-9, double, RBI, walk in two games. Thu exit velo 101.9.

Bye locked. NLDS Game 1 Oct 3. Next: three vs Giants. No more mound work in 2026.

Believe the harder contact, stack the Giants at-bats, and wait for Oct. 3 before you spend on a three-peat script.
