TreVeyon Henderson Out Weeks With High Ankle Sprain

TreVeyon Henderson is going to miss some time. The New England Patriots running back has a high ankle sprain and is expected to be out multiple weeks, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Tuesday. The silver lining for Patriots fans: Henderson will not need surgery, and the team is hoping the second-year back returns relatively soon.
Henderson got hurt in the second quarter of Sunday's 45-17 rout of the Las Vegas Raiders at Gillette Stadium. He ripped off an 11-yard run, got dragged down along the sideline by safety Jeremy Chinn and came up hobbling. He did not come back in a game Drake Maye owned with five total touchdowns.
A second ankle scare already
This one stings because Patriots fans have seen this movie before. Henderson missed the season opener last month with an ankle injury, and he has spent the first five weeks trying to find a rhythm. Through four games he has 163 rushing yards and one touchdown on 42 carries.
That is not the breakout line people pictured, but the burst is still the reason New England keeps finding ways to get him the ball. A high ankle sprain is a nasty one for a back whose whole game is cutting and hitting the gas, so nobody in Foxborough should want him rushed back.
Mike Vrabel said Monday the team would take Henderson and left tackle Will Campbell day to day. Tuesday's report is the first real look at a timeline for the running back, and it is not a quick one.
Stevenson and Kiner carry the load
Rhamondre Stevenson is the starter and the obvious beneficiary. He had 64 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries against the Raiders and should see even more work while Henderson heals.
Corey Kiner served as the primary backup once Henderson went down Sunday. He showed some juice with 52 yards on six carries, but he also lost a fumble, and that gets noticed fast with this coaching staff.
New England is likely to elevate Lan Larison from the practice squad for Sunday to give the room a third option, per ESPN. Larison, an undrafted free agent out of UC Davis in 2025, played in the opener when Henderson was out, logging three offensive snaps with two catches for nine yards plus six special teams snaps.
If you roster Henderson in fantasy, Stevenson just became a must-start.
Jets come to Gillette next
The Patriots are 3-2 and host the 2-3 New York Jets on Sunday at Gillette Stadium. Coming off a 45-point day, this offense has enough firepower to survive a few weeks without its home-run hitter in the backfield, especially with Maye slinging it like he did against Las Vegas.
Still, a healthy Henderson is what turns this backfield from solid into scary. New England fans just want that ankle right before the AFC East race gets serious, and for once, no surgery is the headline worth celebrating.
