Trevon Diggs Signed to Seahawks Roster Before 49ers

Trevon Diggs is a full-time Seahawk now. Seattle signed the former All-Pro cornerback off its practice squad to the 53-man roster on Saturday, ahead of Sunday's NFC West showdown with the San Francisco 49ers at Lumen Field. To make room, rookie corner Julian Neal went to injured reserve with a hamstring injury he suffered in practice this week, per Seattle Sports.
The timing says a lot. The 49ers come to Seattle at 4-0 and sitting on top of the division, per Field Gulls, and the Seahawks needed another body at corner with a third-round pick down.
A small debut, a bigger role
Diggs got his first taste last week. Seattle elevated him for the win over the Chargers and he played nine defensive snaps, mostly as a third-and-long option, per Seattle Sports. He signed a one-year, minimum deal on Aug. 19, got released at cutdowns and came right back on the practice squad.
Now he does not need a gameday elevation to play. Seattle made no practice squad elevations this week, per Field Gulls, and also downgraded receiver and special teams ace Irv Charles to out. Charles is still on injured reserve with a knee injury from training camp.
The rest of the back end is finally getting healthy. Julian Love and Ty Okada are both set to play together for the first time this season, per Field Gulls.
What Diggs used to be
At his peak, Diggs was the most dangerous ball hawk in football. He was a first-team All-Pro in 2021 with a league-high 11 interceptions, two pick-sixes and 21 pass breakups, and made the Pro Bowl in 2021 and 2022, per Seattle Sports. He piled up 17 picks and 49 breakups in his first three seasons in Dallas and has 20 career interceptions, per PFT.
Then the knees took over. A torn ACL limited him to two games in 2023. He had season-ending knee surgery in December 2024 and another knee procedure in January 2025, and he played just 22 games from 2023 through 2025. Last year he had no interceptions and no pass breakups over nine games with the Cowboys and Packers, per Seattle Sports. Dallas waived him in December, and Green Bay released him after its wild-card loss.
The 49ers test
San Francisco is a little short-handed on defense too. The 49ers ruled out Nick Bosa (knee, calf), James Thompson Jr. (ankle), fullback Kyle Juszczyk (knee) and safety Marques Sigle (ankle), per the team.
The 49ers offense is the real problem for Seattle, though. Nobody is asking Diggs to be 2021 Diggs. They are asking him to hold up on third down, keep a ball or two in front of him, and maybe jump one route he has seen a hundred times.
If he does, a cheap practice squad pickup turns into the story of a division game. Unbeaten Niners, a loud Lumen crowd, and a guy with 20 career picks trying to prove he still has a few more. That is a fun Sunday.
