Ravens QB Tyler Huntley Out for Season With Turf Toe
By Smacktok
•

Tyler "Snoop" Huntley is out for the season with a turf toe injury on his right foot, and tests showed he needs surgery. The news hits a Baltimore Ravens quarterback room that was already in rough shape, and it lands just a day before Thursday night's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Here's why it stings. Lamar Jackson is out indefinitely with a right thumb injury he suffered on his first snap Sunday, and coach Jesse Minter said it's "potentially" season-ending. With Huntley done too, the Ravens are down to quarterbacks who've barely taken an NFL snap.
How Huntley Got Hurt
Huntley went down in the second quarter of Sunday's 36-10 loss at Buffalo. Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver twisted him to the ground right after he got rid of the ball, and that play's now ended his season.
It's a tough break for a guy who's been Baltimore's safety net. Huntley, 28, started three games this season while Jackson was out and led the Ravens to an overtime comeback win in Atlanta on Oct. 11. Over his seven-year career, the undrafted Utah product is 8-11 as a starter with 17 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions. He's never been flashy, but Ravens fans knew what they were getting.
Joe Fagnano Gets the Keys
Now it's undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano's turn. He'll make his first career start Thursday night against the Jaguars, which makes him just the second undrafted quarterback to make his first NFL start in primetime. The first was Cooper Rush, who led the Cowboys on a game-winning drive against the Vikings in 2021.
Fagnano wore a brace on his right ankle at Tuesday's practice but was a full participant and is set to play. Behind him, the Ravens are scrambling. Austin Reed signed to the practice squad Monday, and Kedon Slovis came over from the Green Bay Packers' practice squad Tuesday.
The experience gap is wild. Fagnano, Reed and Slovis have combined for 23 career pass attempts, 44 total snaps and zero touchdown passes in the NFL. That's the depth chart Baltimore's taking into a primetime game.
What's Next for Baltimore
Kickoff's set for 5:15 p.m. PT Thursday. It's Fagnano's first start, and the whole league's going to be watching.
For Huntley, the focus shifts to surgery and getting right for next year. For the Ravens, it's about surviving until there's clarity on Jackson's thumb. Nobody in Baltimore saw the season going like this, but here we are, and an undrafted rookie's about to get his shot on a national stage.
