Victor Wembanyama Drops 29 as Spurs Rout Kings
By Smacktok
•

Victor Wembanyama opened the night with an alley-oop slam, matched a career high with nine dunks and finished with 29 points and 10 rebounds as the San Antonio Spurs rolled past the Sacramento Kings 130-103 on Tuesday night, according to the AP. It was the Spurs' first home win of the season.
San Antonio (2-2) had dropped its first two games at Frost Bank Center to Oklahoma City and Houston, so this one mattered for a building that expected a lot more in October. Sacramento fell to 0-4, and the Spurs head straight to Utah on Wednesday.
Victor Wembanyama's first quarter set the tone
Wembanyama had 15 points in the opening quarter on 7-of-10 shooting, including four dunks. Devin Vassell hit his first three 3-pointers in the opening five minutes, and the Spurs put up 39 in the first quarter and 80 by halftime, both season highs for any quarter and any half. Spurs fans who sat through two flat home starts finally got the fast, loud version of this team.
Wembanyama finished 14 of 21 from the field in just 27 minutes and added five blocks and two steals. He was a plus-22 and did not commit a turnover. On a night when the Spurs needed their star to show up early at home, he did exactly that, and the game was basically decided before the second quarter got going.
Julian Champagnie got scorching hot
Julian Champagnie poured in 26 points off the bench on 8-of-13 shooting from 3, and he was 8 of 10 from deep in the first half alone. The Spurs went 17 of 37 from 3 as a team, topping the 15 they made against Dallas on Oct. 24 in their only previous win. All five starters scored in double figures: Stephon Castle had 15, Vassell had 14 with eight assists, Dylan Harper had 13 with six rebounds and six assists on 6-of-7 shooting, and De'Aaron Fox added 11. Harper was a game-best plus-23 in 30 minutes. If you are watching the Spurs this season, that kind of spacing around Wembanyama is what makes them scary.
Kings still looking for a win
Domantas Sabonis did his usual work with 20 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists. De'Andre Hunter scored 24 and Zach LaVine added 22, but Sacramento never got close after the first-quarter avalanche. Kings fans are left watching a team that can score in spurts and still cannot get stops. Sacramento visits New Orleans on Thursday.
Wembanyama blocked five shots in 27 minutes and owned the rim at both ends. Smacktok pick: lean higher on Victor Wembanyama's blocks against the Jazz on Wednesday.
