Yair Rodriguez Out: Jose Delgado Steps Into Noche UFC Main

Yair Rodriguez is out of the Noche UFC main event, and the September 12 card in Glendale still has a five-round featherweight headliner. MMA Fighting first reported that Rodriguez pulled out of his fight with Jean Silva. MMA Junkie confirmed the replacement: Arizona's Jose Delgado, booked for Desert Diamond Arena. This was supposed to be one of the biggest remaining names on the UFC calendar. Instead, Yair Rodriguez is off Mexican Independence weekend, and a first-time headliner is in. The date did not move. The opponent did.

Why Yair Rodriguez is out of Noche UFC

MMA Junkie's first pass said it was unclear why Rodriguez (20-5 MMA, 11-4 UFC) withdrew. The fight would have been his first since April 2025 and only his second since February 2024. MMA Junkie noted it has been three years since he competed twice in the same calendar year. Then Rodriguez posted. MMA Mania translated his Spanish Instagram statement on August 20: “I got injured. I tried to continue my training, but ultimately it wasn't responsible to compete in this condition. I wanted this fight, and I know many of you did too. Now my job is to fully recover and come back ready to compete at the level you expect of me, and that I expect of myself.” He closed with “See you soon.”

His last fight was a unanimous decision over Patricio Pitbull at UFC 314 in April 2025, which snapped a two-fight losing streak that included a title loss to Alexander Volkanovski. MMA Mania said UFC media rankings have him unranked because of inactivity while the UFC Meta rankings still have him at No. 5. A win over Silva at Noche UFC could have pushed him back toward a title fight. An injury statement pushes him back to the waiting room.

Jose Delgado vs Jean Silva is the new main event

Delgado (12-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) trains at the MMA Lab in Glendale and is coming off decision wins over Andre Fili and Austin Bashi, MMA Junkie reported. He told the site after the Bashi fight that he would love to fight in his home area. He has that booking now, as a five-round headliner. Sherdog listed him 4-0 in the UFC since his 2024 debut aside from the Nathaniel Wood loss MMA Fighting cited from 2025. MMA Fighting had him 4-1 in the Octagon. Either way, this is a step up.

Silva (17-3 MMA, 6-1 UFC) was already slated to headline Noche UFC again after the 2025 main event against Diego Lopes, a second-round TKO loss. He beat Arnold Allen by unanimous decision in January. Sherdog quoted Silva on the opponent change: “Hunter took care of everything, we have a new target. New opponent, same date, same goal.” The Brazilian still gets the main-event slot. He does not get Yair Rodriguez.

What the new Noche UFC card looks like

MMA Junkie published the updated lineup around the new headliner: Alexa Grasso vs. Manon Fiorot, Joseph Morales vs. Brandon Moreno, Curtis Blaydes vs. Waldo Cortes-Acosta, plus Edgar Chairez vs. Tim Elliott and Dan Ige vs. David Martinez. The rest of the listed bouts run through the prelims. The building is still Desert Diamond Arena. The holiday is still September 12.

Yair Rodriguez saying he got hurt closes the why. It does not close the when. Noche UFC now belongs to Jose Delgado and Jean Silva. That is a different main event than the one the division circled, and it is the one that is actually happening.
