Zach Charbonnet, Jadarian Price Back for Seahawks on MNF
Zach Charbonnet is finally back, and he is not walking into Lumen Field alone tonight. Seattle activated rookie Jadarian Price off injured reserve on Monday, so when the Bears come to town for Monday Night Football at 5:15 PM PT, the Seahawks will have their full backfield together for the first time all season.
The team made the Price move official Monday afternoon, waiving running back Robert Henry Jr. to open the roster spot, the Seahawks' official site reported. Charbonnet has no game designation and coach Mike Macdonald already confirmed he will play.
Charbonnet's Long Road Back
This is Charbonnet's first game since he tore his left ACL in the divisional round against the 49ers on Jan. 17. He had surgery on Feb. 12, so he is not even nine months removed from the operation. Seattle activated him off the PUP list on Oct. 22, but he sat as an inactive against the Chiefs last Sunday night despite practicing fully all week.
For Seahawks fans who watched him go down in January, seeing him back in uniform tonight is going to hit. The defending champs have leaned on Emanuel Wilson and George Holani in his absence.
Price Gets His Second Chance
Price, the 32nd overall pick out of Notre Dame, missed the last four games with a chest injury he first suffered in Week 2 at Arizona. Before going down, his numbers looked like this:
28 carries for 119 yards
4 catches for 21 yards
He also lost fumbles in the Arizona and Washington games, so ball security is the thing to watch in his return. He was limited in his first practice back last week, then went full the final two days.
Who Is Out Tonight
The bad news has not changed. Left tackle Charles Cross (ankle), receiver and returner Rashid Shaheed (knee) and running back Velus Jones Jr. (hamstring) are all out, and outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu (ankle) is doubtful after missing every practice. Josh Jones starts at left tackle in Cross's place, and Tory Horton is expected to take on a bigger role with Shaheed sidelined. Seattle also elevated receiver Montorie Foster Jr. and tackle Bobby Hart from the practice squad for depth.
For the 5-2 Bears, running back Kyle Monangai (thumb, toe) is out, which leaves the backfield to D'Andre Swift. Linebacker D'Marco Jackson (ankle) and rookie cornerback Malik Muhammad (toe) are questionable.
Chicago's run defense is no pushover for a returning backfield, either. The Bears have allowed the fourth-fewest rushing yards per game to running backs.
The Smacktok Pick
With three healthy backs, a tough run defense and Price coming off a four-game layoff, lean lower on Jadarian Price's rushing attempts tonight. The early read is that Charbonnet gets the goal-line looks unless Seattle eases him in. Seahawks fans waited since January for this backfield to be whole. Tonight it finally is.
