Emmanwori Questionable for Seahawks Opener

Nick Emmanwori is questionable for Wednesday night. Seattle's final Week 1 injury report listed the star safety as questionable with an ankle injury (limited practice) and ruled safety Ty Okada OUT with a hamstring, per the shared Patriots-Seahawks report on patriots.com.
That is the chess-piece question hanging over kickoff at Lumen Field. Mike Macdonald's defense leaned on Emmanwori as a nickel and box hybrid all last year. Opening the Super Bowl rematch without a clear yes is a different look.
Final report, still not cleared
Emmanwori had arthroscopic surgery on his right ankle in July after playing through the issue into the Super Bowl run. He was limited Sunday and Monday. Tuesday kept him limited and stamped questionable instead of OUT.
Gregg Bell of The News Tribune had already flagged signs pointing toward a sit, and SI's Seahawks desk echoed that secondary stress. Okada going OUT compounds it. He was the projected in-house replacement after Coby Bryant left for Chicago.
Linebacker Ernest Brown told reporters the room is focused on who is available right now. That is coach-speak for preparing without your most versatile safety if the ankle does not clear game-day warmups.
Rematch stakes without the hybrid
New England arrives with A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs on the perimeter. Emmanwori's value is stopping the run with five DBs on the field and blitzing from the slot. Lose that and Macdonald has to shrink the package menu.
Earlier coverage tracked him doing more Monday. The final report did not promote him past questionable. Okada is done for this one. Practice-squad elevations on the back end are in play.
Okada's OUT line also matters for how Seattle replaces Bryant. Without Emmanwori sliding toward the line, the nickel package loses its best hybrid and the deep safety room loses its projected starter in the same report. Elevating D'Anthony Bell or another practice-squad safety is the short-term patch. The long-term preference is still getting Emmanwori healthy for January, not forcing him into a Week 1 rematch on a surgically repaired ankle.
Banner night in Seattle. Questionable stamp on No. 21. Wednesday's decision is the last beat before the rematch starts.
Questionable still leaves a door. It is not the same as a full go, and it is not the same as Okada's OUT stamp. Macdonald will decide after walkthrough how much nickel he wants without his best hybrid.
