Frankie Luvu Out as Commanders Visit Cowboys

Washington Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu is out for Sunday's NFC East rematch at the Dallas Cowboys, joined on the inactive board by tight end Chig Okonkwo, after neither practiced this week. Coach Dan Quinn said Friday morning that Frankie and Chig were not able to make it back, and he wanted the room to have the info before the week rolled forward. Luvu is listed with a groin injury. Okonkwo is listed with a hamstring. Both got hurt in the Week 1 loss at Philadelphia.

Defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw is the only Commanders player carrying a questionable tag, with a back injury. Kinlaw was not on Wednesday's report, missed Thursday, and was limited Friday. Five more Commanders were limited all three days without a designation, and four finished the week as full participants.

Green-dot handoff stays with Styles

Rookie Sonny Styles already took over the green-dot signals when Luvu left the Eagles game. ProFootballTalk reported Styles is likely to handle the defensive calls again Sunday. That matters in Arlington, where crowd noise forces more nonverbal communication on first and second down. Washington does not have a tight end who matches Okonkwo's speed and yards-after-catch profile, so three-wide looks are the obvious next plan if the offense leans that way.

Dallas is thin on the other sideline too. The Cowboys ruled out safety Malik Hooker (forearm fracture after Tuesday surgery) and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown (hamstring). Jaishawn Barham wears Dallas's green dot. P.J. Locke is the safety plan while Hooker recovers. Both clubs sit 0-1 after one-score openers.

Fantasy desks already circled Okonkwo as a sleeper streamer before the hamstring stamped him out. Without him, Washington's TE room is volume by committee. Luvu's absence is the bigger defensive story for a Commanders front that needs to slow Dak Prescott without inventing a new middle-of-field plan on game day.

For DFS and season-long desks, Luvu's absence is a Commanders defense downgrade on the road, not a reason to invent a new IDP streamer out of thin air. Styles gets the call sheet. Okonkwo's targets go elsewhere in the offense. Stamp the outs, set the lineup, and wait for Sunday's inactive list before overreacting to Kinlaw's back.
