Mayo Homers Twice as Orioles Beat Guardians

Coby Mayo mashed his first career multi-homer game and the Baltimore Orioles finally snapped a six-game losing streak with a 6-4 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Monday at Camden Yards, per MASN's Roch Kubatko. Mayo's second blast, a 411-foot two-run shot in the sixth for his 21st homer of the season, pushed the lead to 6-1 before Cleveland made the ninth interesting.

The Orioles (70-75) walked seven times in the first three innings, twice with the bases loaded, and got out of their scoring funk without needing early fireworks. Mayo still supplied them anyway. He led off the third with a 426-foot solo shot off Joey Cantillo for homer No. 20, then added the two-run rip off Slade Cecconi later. Baltimore sits three games behind the last Wild Card, currently held by the Guardians.

Rogers' career-high 10th win

Trevor Rogers was the stopper. He worked a season-high 7 1/3 innings, allowing one run on six hits with no walks and six strikeouts. The lefty touched his career-high 10th win and cut his ERA from 4.30 to 4.15 on 104 pitches. Soft contact ruled early. He retired 16 in a row before a sixth-inning bunt single cracked the streak, then left to a standing ovation after tipping his cap.

Manager Craig Albernaz praised Mayo's second-half resilience after the usual ups and downs of a young season. Mayo extended his hitting streak to 11 games and became the seventh Orioles right-handed batter with a 20-homer season before turning 25. "It always feels good, no matter what the arm," Mayo said of going deep against both a lefty and a righty.

Rogers has now strung seven home quality starts in a row, the longest Orioles streak since Corbin Burnes' nine in 2024. Soft contact defined the day until Cleveland scratched across some late traffic. Baltimore still needed Walker's first career save to end it. For a club that had scored once in 27 innings entering Monday, seven early walks and Mayo's two bombs felt like a different offense showing up at the right time.

Ninth-inning noise, still a win

Nathaniel Lowe's pinch-hit three-run homer off Andrew Kittredge in the ninth tightened it. Josh Walker finished for his first career save and has not allowed a run in 14 appearances since Aug. 6. Eleven different Orioles relievers have recorded a save this season, breaking the club record set in 1987.

Elsewhere in the recent AL mix, Grichuk and Teel already piled on for Chicago. Baltimore's version was walks, Mayo's first multi-homer day, and Rogers doing stopper work. The losing streak is over. The Wild Card math is still tight, and Camden gets another chance to chip at Cleveland before this series is done.
